P.T. Heliodore is ten years old when he hears an animal speak for the first time. What begins as a surreal experience soon turns into something extraordinary: owls, beetles, a water snake, a blue cow on its way to New York, and a dog named Pinky all have something to say to him. P.T. has an imagination as big as the state of Connecticut. In his world, animals talk, his father Mylus is king of a kingdom called Nickel Island, and a girl with green hair named Alice Pettygoofer — whom P.T. calls the Feather Girl — can actually fly.

When his father dies, P.T. inherits what he thinks is a glorious kingdom. But Nickel Island turns out to be a forgotten swamp inhabited by a community of outcasts: people rejected by society, each with their own unique flaws and gifts. Guided by his father’s memory and his unwavering imagination, P.T. decides to stay and help the islanders. He dreams of building the “Totally Tremendous Theatre of Wonders”, a magical place where everyone — rich or poor — can come and dream.

Through friendship, hard work and his boundless imagination, P.T. learns that true kingship is not about ruling over land, but about caring for people, accepting diversity and creating a place where everyone can belong.

In an unforgettable journey of poetic magic, humour and adventure, The Phenomenal P.T. Heliodore captures the beauty of believing in your dreams, even when the world around you tells you not to.
