Future is a curious, outspoken child who speaks directly to readers and invites them to look at tomorrow as something alive and open: she explains that she has existed for as long as humankind, because every human generation has imagined what comes next. Blending together astronomy, physics, chemistry, geology, and medicine, the book shows that parts of the future can be anticipated—like eclipses, tides, seasonal cycles, or the consequences of certain habits on health. At the same time, she is clear that many events cannot be predicted, leaving room for creativity, invention, and surprise.
Then, a gallery of possible futures: space elevators, orbital starports, holidays on Mars, and asteroid mining. Back on Earth, Future imagines forest-cities where nature and urban life merge, magnetic and silent transport, self-driving robot cars, houses that produce energy and food, and anti-gravity backpacks for school.
