After its debut at the Frankfurter Buchmesse, Just Right is set to gain international attention by participating in two prestigious publishing events: the 14th Sharjah Publishers Conference in United Arab Emirates and, after a few days, the 2024 China Children’s Book Fair in Shanghai.
Held from November 3rd to 5th, the Sharjah Publishers Conference is open to all book industry professionals interested in buying or selling translation rights. The three-day agenda includes seminars, opportunities to connect with key figures from Arab and international publishing, one-to-one meetings, and extensive networking options. In order to promote the exchange of rights globally, participants can apply for the SIBF Translation Grant, which allocates a total of $300,000 to support rights’ deals made during the conference.
The Just Right catalogue will also be showcased at the 2024 China Children’s Book Fair, taking place from November 15th to 17th at the Shanghai World Expo Exhibition and Convention Centre. The fair showcases over 478 prominent publishers and children’s content creators from 25 countries and territories, making it a premier destination for children’s literature and related content in the Asia Pacific region.
With the motto “Embracing the Future”, the CCBF is committed to improving the quality of children’s literature and promoting a culture of reading among young audiences. For instance, since 2018, it has worked closely with the Bologna Children’s Book Fair to develop a rich program of events, including conferences, seminars, the Golden Pinwheel Young Illustrators Competition, Illustrators Avenue, and the Children Plus Exhibition.
Just Right is introducing agency’s rights guide during both the events: our proposals range from picture books to young adult novels by bestselling authors. Among our latest deals: translation rights of Evil Queen written by Gabriele Clima and illustrated by Lorenzo Sangiò (Edizioni Corsare) are sold to Russian; Us Kodama by Bimba Landmann (Camelozampa) is sold to a Korean publisher and Micro Space Rabbits by Alessio Alcini is going to be published in France. Little Fingerprints series by Maria Gianola will be soon available for Vietnamese readers.
Five books from the catalogue have been also recently selected for the IBBY Italia Choice 2024: At Cockrow, written by Fabian Negrin and illustrated by Mariachiara Di Giorgio (Edizioni Corsare, 2024), The Parable of the Independent Bakers, by Neil Packer (Camelozampa, 2024), Little Sailing Manual, by Sara Stefanini (Camelozampa, 2023), Beastian, written by Bruno Tognolini and illustrated by Alice Baladan (Gruppo Abele edizioni, 2023), and Recherche, by Marianna Bruno (ideestortepaper, 2023).
